The number and complexity of requirements that young adults are required to fulfill when they enter the labor market have only been mounting over the years. Apart from outstanding academic performance, firms have increasingly been seeking candidates with both analytical and soft skills and a multifaced personality. Although such qualities are justifiably sought after by employees, most educational systems do not diverge from their academic goals to cultivate and develop these skills. Luckily, students have started realizing the need to detach themselves from the “conventional” notion of education that so far occurs in the form of high school, undergraduate and graduate education. With this exact realization, the concept of a Gap Year was born.

The movie “JOKER” premiered on August 31st,2019, in the Venice International Film Festival earning a standing ovation and the award of the Golden Lion for Best Film. Since then, the much-discussed movie has grossed over $852 million worldwide making it one of the most successful movies of 2019. The main character, Arthur Fleck,  a clown and aspiring stand-up comedian is struggling with everyday life and a variety of mental illnesses and eventually spirals down to the darkest places of his mind, where he finds “Joker”. Joker has murderous tendencies and creates social chaos, disregarding any form of rationale. His revengeful attitude towards society and people emits fear, unpredictability and madness.

“The Notre Dame is burning!”, “Notre Dame is on fire!”, “Flames threaten the 850-year-old historical French cathedral”. Bad news travel fast and sooner or later the world knew that the Notre Dame de Paris had caught fire, with the most prevalent theory being that it was an accident during renovation works that caused the blaze.

Within a matter of days, the French president promises that the monument will be restored within a 5-year period and at the same time donations start flooding to fund the rebuilding of Notre Dame. Fundraising websites, campaigns and other initiatives are carried out and the global community is taking action, with individuals contributing as much as they can.
